Bourbon Shipping
Licensing
You must be licensed to ship alcohol. For example, UPS requires shippers to enter into a "UPS Agreement for Approved Spirits Shippers".
Packaging
Alcohol must be packaged properly, using leak-proof packaging and secure cushioning.
Shipping Labels
The shipping label must clearly indicate that the package contains alcohol.
Documentation
You must include all required documentation, such as a completed UPS Alcohol Shipping Agreement form.
Shipping Permits
You may need to obtain a shipping permit from the carrier, which must be approved by the originating and destination states.
Age
An adult must be at least 21 years old to sign for the package.
Fees
You must pay a special alcohol shipping fee.
Compliance
You must comply with all FDA and TTB (Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau) guidelines and regulations.
Carrier Restrictions
Some carriers may not be able to deliver to every customer, and may only accept shipments for specific states.
State Laws
Each state has its own rules for shipping alcohol. For example, in Kentucky, visitors from seven states can ship spirits home under the "Bourbon Without Borders" law.
Note: You can't ship alcohol through the U.S. Postal Service, but some carriers that do ship alcohol include UPS and FedEx.
